We all know the feeling of stumbling across Custom Content that looks amazing and makes you want to play the Sims immediately to try it out! BUT… sometimes your game might crash or become buggy after you download this fantastic new CC. There is no need to scream, cry, or break your computer; there are a few things you can try before going to the extreme.

What to do if you can’t find your Custom Content:

If some of your newly downloaded custom content doesn’t appear in-game or doesn’t work in-game (e.g. if you place it, it disappears), I recommend batch fixes using the Sims 4 Studio. In the Sims 4 Studio, you can perform “batch fixes” (look for it under the Content Management Tab). This has fixed countless amounts of CC for me! You can download the Sims 4 Studio here.

They also provide instructions on how to use it, and it is pretty simple. You click on content management, then batch fixes. You can select any option from the menu; I usually go through them all one by one. A pop-up will appear, which shows the path to your mods folder. Make sure it is correct and press run. Some fixes might take longer than others; just be patient and let the program do its work.

What to do when your game breaks or crashes after downloading new CC:

In these cases, it is recommended to do the 50/50 test. Basically, you split your (new) content into two equal groups (50/50) and keep one half in your mods folder, and the other half you remove from your mods folder. If the game crashes again when you run it, you know the corrupt file causing the crash is still in the remaining content in your mods folder. If the game doesn’t crash, it means the corrupt file is among those in the folder you removed. If you’re not following what I mean, I made a chart to try and make this easier to understand.

What to do when your game breaks or crashes after a game update:

It is not uncommon for Sims 4 players to run into trouble when updating their game; especially when you use mods and custom content. I have made a separate post dedicated to guiding you through the update process if you are using CC. You can check it out here.
